IJCCR
International Journal of Community Currency Research
www.ijccr.net

The IJCCR was conceived as an online forum for disseminating knowledge about community and complementary currencies. As a freely available online resource, it makes new scientific knowledge about this innovative phenomenon accessible to all, so overcoming many of the barriers separating ‘academics’ from ‘activists’. It also offers speedy publication of new findings, again overcoming the lengthy delays associated with publishing in traditional academic print journals.

This peer-reviewed journal aims to provide a common forum for informed articulation and debate of empirical, critical and theoretical research on community currencies. We seek to bridge the gaps in knowledge, practice and communication which exist between community currency ‘activists’ and ‘academics’.

Community currencies are here defined widely to encompass the full range of possible currency systems. Our desire is to facilitate analysis not only of those systems currently in use, including the ‘money-based’ systems such as LETS, time-based systems such as time-dollars and Ithaca hours, other scrip-based community exchanges as well as business trade exchanges, but also to provide an arena in which the historical use of community currencies can be explored.

Welcome to the Help Desk on Complementary Currency Systems,

If you need assistance in implementing a new Local, Complementary, Community or Traditional Currency System, or questions about improving an existing local economic system, of any type, anywhere in the World, the Complementary Currency Help Desk is here for you !

Orignally an initiative of the Social Trade Organization, assistance for the helpdesk is provided by Concentric Network Economy Consulting, with webspace provided by the Complementary Currency Resource Center.

If you find these resources to be valuable, please make a contribution to improve them and keep them available.

A Complementary Currency System cannot be started for free.

As a self-sustaining economic system that benefits people socially and economically, it requires financial resources to implement and manage a system properly. To start a system properly often requires the services of an assistant, advisor or consultant.

Step 1

Please inform the Help Desk

Coordinators of your interest, so that

we can assist you to find your way to the information and support that

you need.

If you have questions,

please review the Frequently

Asked Questions file for

answers, and take a good look around this website, especialy the ccLibrary,

and the ccLinks

section. You

may also wish to join a Discussion Group,

and ask your questions there. Also be sure to visit the Strohalm

Foundation website to see descriptions of our organization’s programs.

If your question has not been

asked yet

in the Frequently Asked Questions file,

please contact the Help

we can

improve

the file.

Step 2

If you wish to start a new complementary currency system, we ask

you to download and fill out a brief Community

Assessment form, to give us as much information

about you, your group, and your community as possible. We would also

like

to know what type of system you are thinking of starting, and this

Guide

to Starting a New Complementary Currency System is very helpful.

It would be very beneficial if you were also to fill out the more detailed Situation

Assessment form as well, to give us a very clear idea about your

proposed program. You may also want to consider doing a Community

Economic Mapping project.

If you need assistance with improving an existing Local Currency System,

we ask you to send us a detailed description and analysis of your

system. This should include the Community

Assessment form and Situation

Assesment form, as

well as your own analysis of the community and what program you would

like to implement. Also, see the Method

for Assessing the Operations of a Complementary Currency System.
